CANparent Trial update
CANparent was officially launched by the Prime Minister back in May and since then the Department has been on the road for local launches in the three trial areas of Camden, Middlesbrough, High Peak and Derbyshire. This trial is a marvellous opportunity for all parents with children of 5 years and under to access parenting support. You can find out more about CANparent on their dedicated website, www.canparent.org.uk. If you are a practitioner in any of the areas please highlight this to parents.
THE 3 OF US – New Sessions To Offer Couple Support For First Time Parents & Parents To Be
THE 3 OF US, is a new Department for Education backed project, will offer relationship support to expecting and new mums and dads (including those in same-sex relationships). This follows evidence that the early years of a child’s life is a common time for relationship difficulties to occur. In the 2010 DfE report, Relationships Matter, 61% couples cited difficulties they linked with having a baby. Many taking part in the research associated the period as one of very high stress. While most support for new parents focuses mainly on the baby, this will be an opportunity to also focus on the couple relationship, offering advice for balancing the emotional needs of both parents with the baby’s needs. Three organisations – Relate, Fatherhood Institute and the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships have come together to deliver THE 3 OF US services, currently being trialled in the following areas: North Essex (Braintree, Colchester & Harlow), Leeds & York, London (Islington & Westminster, Hackney & City) and Plymouth. Different prices for different service offerings are being trialled in order to evaluate what new parents need, their willingness to pay and to assess the sustainability of the service after the trial period.
For more information about THE 3 OF US, please visit the website www.the3ofus.org.uk. The website will go live on the 18th September from which date couples can start booking sessions.
