that is true working with children is fun but now the paper work has taken over especially when you are working alone. is true that there should be some documentation about the child/ children you look after. now if you are taking children out either play group or children,s center you have to write about where you are going, what is there and all these are time consuming. you are taking the out to explore and places new places. if any one who care for children have that love for children i don,t if the person will just be caring for these children with out proper care or attention. and i think people can use their common sense or experience to that instated of writing document and you are not practicing what they put on paper. all i know is that the child is unique and is the duty of any one who is working with that child to help them learn care for them and for them to achieved, develop all the learning areas. we should working in the interest of the children

I have been a pre-school leader for 17 years and must say that there is far too much paper work under the new EYFS - it certainly hasn't been reduced. Some of the headings under the assessments of the children, we can,t even understand what they mean. Some of the headings are rediculous for example how can a child between 30 and 50 months be 'aware of rhyme and alliteration'! They sing nursery rhymes and listen to stories which include alliteration, but the rest goes over their heads! This is just one example. _ Children should just be playing and not having to be taken away from this play just so that we as practitioners can hi-lite a box with written evidence nest to it. Most of the maths assessments have to be done on a one-to-one basis as it is! What happened to such simple headings as count up to five objects, count to ten or knows shapes circle, square, etc. - too much high faluting language is used in the assessments! Everything is going the wrong way and leaving a lot of early years practitioners being disillusioned with the profession having to spend more time on filling in paper work and cohort sheets instead of sitting down with the children, doing a variety of fun activities with them. I am a 'hands on leader having keyworker children myself and am very disillusioned. Does anyone else feel like me? Why can't they have practitioners working in the front line designing these profiles with easily understood development matters to assess that parents understand too!

i total agree with you, were has all the fun gone with looking after children, is it not about playing and learning, yes there are needs and goals to be meet but i went into child care 25years ago to let children experiance some things they might not at home and enjoyed having fun with them but feel it is all about paper work now
