EYPS

Postby caroline » Sat Feb 18, 2012 6:24 pm

I have just started working towards my EYPS and wanted any feedback on the outcomes for practitioners following the status, or after completing it. How has it helped you all, your settings....? And what kind of quality has it developed in your professional role...been a support, or another set of standards to adhere to, with less time with the children?

Hi

I have just been awardded EYP and am very proud of the award. It was hard work, but it did reinforce all the good practice and helped to support reflection.

It has helped me to know that change needs to happen and how to prepare my team for it.

No it is not another set of standards to adhere to, but it is a set of standards to focus on (if you want to) on how you practice.

Enjoy the EYP route.

Caroline,
I have just been awarded EYP and am very proud of the award. It was hard work, but it consolidated a lot of what I do anyway. I did not find it to be another set of standards to be adhered to at all. It did give me an opportunity to focus my leadership and management issues and reflect and research what I do well and what I could do better.
My advice is enjoy the journey, and learn what you can. it does support your everyday practice.

Hi, As the others have said EYPS is very enjoyable and definately helps your own personal development and practice. However I find it very disappointing that you can't move into leadership roles in schools, ie being a Foundation Stage teacher with this status. My local authority is still looking for QTS when recruiting early years advisory teachers to work with pre-schools, day nurseries etc, but hopefully one day this will change. I also think that it disappointing that EYPs are not renumerated in a similar way to other professionals such as teachers and nurses, we are still the poor relations.

But good luck, and do enjoy it, obtaining the status is very rewarding.
