Difficult family circumstances may sometimes mean that parents are unable to care for their children. If this happens, members of the wider family – often referred to as kinship carers – may step in to raise the children, keeping them with those who love and know them best. Around 200,000 grandparents and other family members in the UK are raising a relative’s child, often with very little support. 4Children is developing an Early Help Model to support practitioners who may be working with kinship carers, working in partnership with Grandparents Plus, Mentor UK  and the Childhood Bereavement Network. The Early Help Model will include bespoke training and materials, including the Kinship Care Guide, and a series of short web films.
